Letter #22, 2025, Friday, February 7: Francis[2025-02-07][Engleză]The Pope Has BronchitisPope Francis, 88, has fallen sick with bronchitis (see article below), curtailing his meeting schedule in Rome. Man Desecrates Altar in St. Peters Basilica Also today, an unidentified man wearing a backpack has desecrated the main altar in St. Peters Basilica by climbing onto it, kicking the candle-stands off the altar, and walking across the altar. The video showing this act of desecration may be viewed at this link. Trumps Policies and the Jesuits In the United States, a massive purge of evidently corrupt Deep State expenses dating back decades and supporting the politically correct and woke ideology (see, for example, this article) continues 20 days after the inauguration on January 20 of the new US President, Donald Trump. This relates to the Church, and to the direction of the activity of certain Church agencies, which now seem to have been funded chiefly by the US government. One example: Trumps freeze on foreign aid through the USAID agency has hit the Jesuit Refugee Service, one of the biggest players in immigration policies in countries like Ireland and throughout the European Union. Yesterday, the Jesuits announced that their work across the globe has been affected. (link) So, Trumps policies are reversing policies and actions not only in America but in Ireland and throughout the world. *** New Ambassador from Kazakhstan to the Holy See This morning the Holy Father Francis received in audience H.E. Support the Moynihan Letters Pope Francis to take meetings at home while sick with bronchitis, Vatican says (link) By Hannah Brockhaus Vatican City, Feb 6, 2025 / 12:30 pm Pope Francis will hold the next few days of meetings in rooms at his Vatican residence while sick with bronchitis, the Vatican said Thursday. Due to bronchitis, from which he is suffering at this time, and in order to continue his activities, on Friday, Feb. 7, and Saturday, Feb. 8, Pope Francis audiences will be held at Casa Santa Marta, the Feb. 6 message from the Holy See Press Office said. The 88-year-old Francis meetings with an association of Italian midwives and with Eastern Orthodox priests and monks on Feb. 6 were also held at his Santa Marta home instead of the Apostolic Palace as planned. The Pope also did not read aloud his prepared speeches for those audiences. Due to the light illness, the day prior, the Pope had an aide to read his catechesis at his weekly public audience in the Paul VI Hall. On Sunday, Feb. 9, the pontiff is scheduled to preside over a Mass in St. Peters Square for the second special weekend of the 2025 Jubilee of Hope: the Jubilee of the Armed Forces, Police, and Security Personnel. Pope Francis also kept his schedule while remaining indoors when he had a cold right before Christmas. His Angelus prayer and message on Dec. 22, 2024, were livestreamed from the chapel of the Casa Santa Marta. The Pope, who has been suffering from visible breathlessness during recent meetings, has more and more frequently declined to read his prepared remarks to audiences or opted to have the remarks read by a priest aide. He has faced several health challenges in recent years, including knee problems requiring a wheelchair, respiratory infections, and a fall resulting in a forearm contusion.
